Hi Tim,

Wonderful information, you really got me on when of the points.

I mean, I am using a Web Design/Developer, and I have almost only good things to say about them. They do things the way I want, and don't say yes or no (which means I am still in charge - great).

I am a control freak and that's probably one of my bad qualities, but we have been working together since August and now we even start to understand eachother, which means they make corrections without me having to say anything. So I guess that's really a positive thing, we have created a good relationship.

But, and a big BUT, they control it all. Meaning, I have to contact them if I want to change just one single word in my sales copy, and that kills me. I mean, at first, I hate waiting several hours (even days) to make tiny changes + I can't afford paying for something tiny like changing a few words in your sales copy.

Tim, here's the question for you: I asked them about turning the website into a WordPress them, so I easily can update it, but they told me it would take them a lot of time and cost me more money.

Is there any way to get around this, and without paying $200 for moving it over to a CSS platform?

Again, great post!

Cheers,
Jonas

Really good read there, and I LOVE the skeleton photo!!
I think one of the most salient points was to research the type of site we want, get photos together, ideas from other sites, draw it out, etc as to how we wish ours to look. It's not always the designers fault if it does not come up trumps, if we don't explain it to them properly in the first place.
I'll definately be taking your advice as I need to re vamp my site (gymandtonichay.co.uk) soon. I can now see it needs a developer, rather than a designer to take it to where it needs to go. Thanks

Hi guys thanks for the comment..

Nick: You can get a hosting account from one of literally thousands of locations on the internet, some more expensive than others, some with the features you need and some not.

The short of it is, A hosting account is basically the location where your website lives, you get certain information from your hosting company which allows you to update the pages on your site using an application called an FTP program.

An FTP program is really easy to use, it is simply a case of copying web page files from one place to another...

Tell you what I'll do a post on this next week to explain in more detail...

Hi Tim

Great post really helpful, hosting is my biggest problem! Being a huge non geek I don't really understand it! Do I not need the hosting with them in order to get it live online. Sorry if that is an unbelievably stupid question but hay if you don't ask you will never know!

Hey Tim - Man, this is actually one of my biggest fears right now because it's exactly the point that I'm at in my business.

I'm own a fitness company called D-Mensions Fitness and right now I'm Mr. Everything, unfortunately.

I actually just outsourced my accounting which feels pretty good but I'm looking to have that weight lifted off. My fear is having it done right and I guess that's where my communication comes in.

Damn, scary sh@t. Thanks for the post man.

I'm actually reading 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris right now. Great book.

I have to do this right now!
